Magic Spinball is an action game in the classic Breakout mold where you have to break all the bricks with a bouncing ball to progress. You control the sideways moving paddle at the bottom of the screen and can use it to bounce the moving ball at the bricks above, at the same time avoiding that it passes you and falls out of the game field.
There are several special bricks in Magic Spinball, some cannot be broken and other require you to hit them multiple times. There is also Ramp bricks that lets you shoot the ball on top of the layout to land behind the brick wall. Also availble are many different special items that help you to clear out the bricks faster: Laser cannon, Rocket launcher, Multiballs and more.
The online game is played over 3 levels, each with a strict time limit and varying layout of the bricks. Each layout becomes slight more difficult and unless you clear it in time the game ends right there. As you get close to the clearing all the bricks the Warp hole opens up that lets you make an early escape. You have a limited number of balls in the game, apart from you initial starting ball you only get 3 extra balls. Losing them all means losing the online game.
The key strategy in Magic Spinball is to try to bounce the ball into spots where it can make the most damage without you having bounce it too often, like trying to get it between two brick walls. Many of the level are contructed to let you find those shots if you look for them.
Also using the special items that are released in the best way cam kae a big impact on how fast you clear a level. Use them wisely and make sure that you get the maximum damage from your Rockets and Lasers shots.
The extra ball you can launch at any time give you a valuable tactical option. Using them too early means that you have few lives left for the later harder levels, but if time is getting tight it is still worth more to progress to the next level than to save extra lives you would never get to use.
