8-Ball Pool is not as simple as just pocketing a group of balls as quickly as you can. Ideally, you would like to pot all the balls in a group consecutively, followed by the 8-ball, without affording your opponent a chance to pocket any balls in his group. In practice, however, this will not happen very often, so you will have to bear in mind strategies such as:
Playing Safe - leaving the cue ball in a position where it will be difficult for your opponent to pocket a ball on his turn,
Covering The Pockets - leaving balls from your group at the edge of the pockets thereby stopping your opponent from being able to pocket balls from his group in those pockets.
